Tyler Smith - The Clockmaker
[plx013] - 2007-05-21
The Clockmaster

Plex is back with a pure Techno release!

Tyler Smith is a warrior of the techno scene. He does mixes for the Interstate 94 show and had already worked for many labels like Audiocrash, Pohjolla and Nuchoon.
Our guy makes original Detroit complexion music. A strong and dark techno but deep and melancholic too.
When listening to these four titles Tyler conducts us for a walk through the streets of a tentacular megalopolis. Neon's intermittent flashes light the scene with far in the background a groovy and heavy rhythm.

Keep the vibes!

Hopen - Nine in Böhmen
[plx012] - 2007-01-12
Nine in Böhmen
Plex main strategy remains unchanged today: we want to promote "differents" artists with strong personnality.
That's why we are very proud to welcome Hopen on Plex !
Polymorphic artist who has worked solo on Arbouse for abstract and experimental stuffs and with Chaton on Plak and Mental Groove for more minimal techno sounds.

Hopen gives us a release with a strange mood. Original soundtrack of a lost film between psychedelic state, post summer of love and smoke-filled electro drifts.
Nine In Bohmen uncovers its richness after each listening. Richness made of unusual reliefs and textures. And we have to say that we love to lose ourselves in this universe.

Artist notes:

" Nine in Böhmen is to end a circle of a very difficult life period.

Two tracks to say fuck off and distilling the slow feeling of a journey in lost, a sound poem to finish with animals...

To say I love U to the girl I love, my lighty sleeping wife, my awake Nine... Shortcuts evolving sand of beaches!
A run into the dust in a renting car...

To say hello to my friend Nathan, to give Henry Death a chance and hello to Leo and OPE... and Marc Zen the Roar.

Nothing."

Keinzweiter - Mounted Mars
[plx011] - 2006-11-09
Mounted_Mars
It is an honor for us to receive Keinzweiter. An artist with a great musical culture and multiple influences. After a few noticed releases on differents labels like Klang, Force Inc Music Works and more recently Archipel, Keinzweiter skyrockets here an amazing ep of Advanced Minimal Techno.

A distinguished music with a huge proliferation of sounds. But the composition is so bright that the micro sampling does not alter the purity and the power of the groove. The result of this special blending is a real deep and minimal funky music.

Does we need to mention that Twerk did a wonderful job on the mastering part ? Sound is precise, crisp and warm for your delight.

Mounted Mars EP shows the strength of Keinzweiter music: clever and funky, subtle and "danceable" !

Cyclyk - Calcified
[plx010] - 2006-10-19
Calcified
Cyclyk is back on Plex for our tenth reference: Calcified
An ambitious and demanding but bewitching release. A journey with many colors and surprising outlines. A canvas with heavy atmosphere.

Calcified is not only an addition of tracks but a true succession of minimalist and intimist pictures. Childhood evocation is the subject. Fake naivety that creates a so particular environment, disturbing and familiar at the same time. Concept of minimalism and work on the musical material are, here, a genuinely artistic approach that goes beyond simple cliches of a "minimal or IDM" music. The musician works the roughest texture to find the best imaginative re-creation and the listener wanders in a strange world between sordid hallucination and perfect abstraction.

As usual with Cyclyk, sound is shaped, engraved and leaves its trace in electronica/experimental landscape. Definitely different.

Nhar - Cisland
[plx009] - 2006-07-05
Cisland
We welcome with pleasure and pride Nhar, young french productor known for his works on labels like Plak or Mobilee. With a few EPs he has imposed his touch, made of fluid and melodic techno with trancey and minimal influences. For his first release on Plex, he gives us with Cisland a great outline of his talent.

Cisland his the perfect tune for this summer 2006. Sensual and delightfully melodic, it brings us in a roundness feminine universe that lights up at each listening. Its bouncing bass and its fruity groove make this track a must of the moment !

Quintessence, is a lot more abstract and hypnotic tune that will delight the lovers of techno with dark and mysterious atmosphere.

Various Artists - Jackstrap
[plx008] - 2006-05-30
Jackstrap
Plex is back with some heavy stuff. Jackstrap is a various artists release that minimal techno lovers must absolutely check out. Many facets of the genre are covered, featuring renowed talents as Hrdvsion and more recently discovered GummiHz, netaudio sensations as Ambitronic, V.Rotz and Human Koala, as well as a totally new comer, Pappas. Living tracks made by talented artists with character. Don't miss it!

First tune from Paris suburbs-based Pappas, Sugar is a surprising track where a schyzo young boy would be singing on a kind of post-acid house minimal rhythm. Then comes famous Hrdvsion a.k.a. Nathan Jonson, known for his works on Traum, Wagon Repair, Itiswhatitis and Plak Records. This multi-faced guy from Canada gave us here a true killer track, Beside. Just american minimal techno at its best! The trip goes on with Examen by V.Rotz (from Sevilla, released on Flumo, Subtropical, and Plex). Hypnotizing basic bassline, tight and arid beat, dark mood, you'll like this one for sure.
Recent sensation from the highly recommandable Mobilee label, GummiHz (from England) has already released some stuff on After-Dinner and Leftnet before. Feedback is an astonishing track with a rare inspiration and production level. If you're seriously into minimal, you have to keep an eye on this man.
Already featured in plx002, Human Koala (France) is back with Big Heat. An epic advanced tune with rockin'beat and unexpected textures, with a strong sense of direction, as always with him. The release ends with the talented Ambitronic (from Germany, released on Idealtechno.de) with a more meditative track. Christa shows us a more soulful shade of minimal, where deep elements talk directly to our feets and heart.

.at/on - univ_rse
[plx007] - 2006-03-30
univ_rse
For his first release on Plex, .at/on invites us to a trip into arid lands of dark and extinct night in interstellar space. Close your eyes and listen.

Infinite space, captivating textures, subtles rhythmics.

With spa_e we begin the tour in outer space before being wake up by t_t, the face in a big container of pure ether. Desert planet where a dying antique computer song resonates. Then we follow our walk with v_ga that brings a shiny atmosphere where we find some calm. Voices arise. Persistences of a vanished era, diffused souvenirs slip of an end of life hard drive.

Brasswork Agency - Plastic Smile
[plx006] - 2006-02-07
Fehlfarben
Back to the floor.

By giving us Plastic Smile EP, Brasswork Agency (a.k.a. Justin Rick, dj/producer from Chicago) did great: futuristic house with tight beats, vocoder elements and deep techno emanations.

Let's start with Hard to Read, a solid tune featuring a funky minimal synthetic bassline. Then comes in a stranger mood the hypnotic Plastic Smile. In I Must Have You Justin takes us to a more romantic place while keeping upliftin. Beautiful melancholic vocoder sounds! The trip ends with Crushed and Shaken and its subliminal spoken words, a perfect track for late nights!...

Various Artists - Europa
[plx005] - 2006-01-19
Europa
We're proud to present Europa.

This project features some of the most talented artists from the european electronica/experimental scene, from the Atlantic coast to the Ural.

Seven artists with their own personalities, their own secret gardens... each one very different from the others.

That's what we imagined when the idea first came in, and we wish to thank them for the substance they provided to Plex; by listening to it, we have to admit without pretention that this fifth release is a beautiful and rare print of this big-growing scene.

With Temna Nichka, nu wonder Zavoloka from Kiev gives us a short tune with a high hit potential. As soon as the track begins, the rough vocal take (performed by her old friend Forrrest) immediatly shows us that Katia doesn't care about conventions. Easily singable under the shower! Playing with abstract percussive experiments in the first part, then bringing a swaying electronica beat in the second part, ending with a kind of cheaptune, sinus-based melody, she keeps on proving she is probably the most inspirated artist in the avant-garde scene, and not only... Katia's creativity doesn't seem to have any boundary, and we can definitely say that anything is possible when it comes to her!
Cyclyk from France, already heard on Plex in Static Movement (PLX002), comes back with his friend Fuyu. They give us here Uzumaki, a beautiful and melancholic tune, mixing electronica elements, softly crisping beats with post-rock influences.
With One, Cellardoor (Daniel Raykhert and Stephan Kubrak, based in Chelyabinsk, Russia) takes us to a more frightening place. Dreamy, quiet, omnipresent and quite fearing melody is contrasting with violent and complex rythm.
Atmospherical break time comes with Butterfly Dream, a smooth landscape by the great Lomov from Germany, one of our favorite artists (also present on Plex with a complete release, Fehlfarben - PLX004). Foggy and mysterious mood, inciting the auditor to meditate...
Bringing us Petit Lu, Omas FGT from France, already known for his appearance on Plex in PLX001 and PLX002, keeps on making outstanding dark and narrative pieces, this time with spoken words by Patrice Valota, french actor and renowed slammer. A sort of modern poem in french everyday's spoken language, where Patrice expresses himself about today's poverty.
Then comes Xt by .At/On (Kiev based as Zavoloka), with its sustaining synth pad chord, glitches and clicks, mixed with "post-tech" influences, rising to the following track.
Coeval (Juan Carlos Blancas and Jose Alberto Gaspar from Madrid) is known for its soundscaping works. Tzam is an intriguing piece, which takes us to an unknown place, which cannot be described with words. Wicked.
The trip ends with another appearance of our beloved Lomov. Lake Biwa sounds like a dark, almost religious, initiatic trip. Wet and smokey.

Lomov - Fehlfarben
[plx004] - 2005-12-01
Fehlfarben
First you need to know that in Germany second choice cigars are called: 'Fehlfarben'...

"Long time ago my father smoked that kind of cigars and thus I had a lot of wooden boxes to keep odds and ends within. Later I smoked cigars myselfe (but more imported Havannas) accompanied with an excellent red wine while I was listening with friends to good sixty years jazz. The first tracks I made for the 'Fehlfarben'-EP were more jazz-related and I named it this way. Later I drifted a bit away from this approach, but the name remained..." Lomov.

However Fehlfarben is more first class than second choice... Lomov gives us here a smooth, deep and slightly melancholic music. Midway between atmospheric electronica and etheric deeptechno with subtil and hypnotic changes. The micromecanic and organic clics of the rhythmics carry us delicately into his universe where each sound really radiates.

V.Rotz/Akan - V.Rotz / Akan
[plx003] - 2005-09-29
V.Rotz/Akan
After publishing the most experimental side of Plex with Static Movement, we deliver now our first dancefloor release.

V.Rotz (from Flumo and Latinloops), gives us with Capsule Crash a minimal, groovy and trancey vision of techno. This is a hit ready to ravage dancefloors...

Akan on his side slows down a little bit the tempo with Narcolepsy and plays more hypnotics sounds for a eight minutes long fantastic trip.

Various Artists - Static Movement
[plx002] - 2005-09-19
Static Movement
Experimental substance.

Cyclyk, who has already signed differents works for Sillons, give life for Plex to two intimists vibrancies tracks playing with sonic accidents. Trope starts slowly before bringing us in a vicious and ascetic groove. The disrupted machinery of Tired destabilizes us to better propel us in the heart of his singular universe.

Human Koala delivers here two high personality tracks. Stunning Don’t Run that he defines like a ghostly growth where he builds some longs synthetic drones. Heady Ninyo Kopla is a big dive in an exotic and refreshing vibe with cheap tunes aesthetic.

Akan with Statizm plays with contemporary music influences for a very cinematic result filled with controled tension and a perfect mise-en-scene. And on Acero we assist to a groovy progression in a strange and oppressive world.

At last Omas FGT invites us with Very Low Frequencies to an organic walk through earth’s magnetic field using some recordings of Jean-Pierre Aubé grabbed on Arte Radio.

Please note that all these artists will soonly publish their works in some personal releases.
